Terror strikes are macabre, unexpected and gruesome .My heart goes out to the people caught in this dastardly act of terror. In such times people experience unimaginable trauma that it becomes difficult to keep your sanity or to even react to the situation. Some people are in shock and some become hysterical. The person’s attitude matters most within the restrictive situation that they are in. The body system and the nerves automatically co-operate, but the person should be realistic. The mental acceptance of the situation and the willingness to be positive about the consequence is very important. In any special situation the body immediately goes into a mode that facilitates more powerful physical and mental activity than what is done in a normal state. When in a charged state of mind a few simple breathing exercises can help you cope.

Inhaling and exhaling in proper, rhythmic fashion can help calm your pulse and heart rate.

Anulom Vilom pranayam – inhaling and exhaling through alternate nostrils and Bhramhari pranayam – inhalation and long exhalation with humming sound will help calm you and will also help clear your mind to be more focused. The surge of adrenalin at this time can cause palpitation and increased heart rate. To counter this, take deep breaths through the nose and exhale through the mouth. Make it a prolonged exhalation .These simple breathing techniques will help to keep you well oxygenated and will ensure that your presence of mind is not impaired. Keeping your eyes closed, do simple meditation to stay calm and to keep your sanity intact.

There is a need to accept reality and at such a time positive thinking is of utmost importance. At such times food and water become rare commodities. So rationing them becomes an important exercise. So spread out the food intake as well as the available quantities of water. It is possible to stay longer without food but water needs to last.

The person should keep all these aspects in mind and be willing to hope for more favorable consequences.
