Telecommunication: a boon and a bane. In this instant world, we may be able to instantly share our thoughts at the same time, and yet each soul could be lonesome.
I would like to acknowledge, the inventor of telephone – Alexander Graham Bell, for having given us such an invention, which has touched almost every aspect of our life.
But, I would also like to admit that we have drastically misused technology. Unfortunately our technology has far exceeded our humanity, it surely owes an apology to our ecology; for nature cannot and should not be fooled. Unfortunately technology has made it impossible for us to sit and be quiet, it will make it impossible for us to meditate, contemplate and pray in peace. Unfortunately it may become more and more efficient in stopping us from experiencing life, of taking us backwards, far from who we are.
Today’s world sees rapid changes due to varied and developing technologies, but with the good comes the bad. Our interconnected and increasingly networked world in the field of trade, commerce, banking, telemedicine, e-governance and other host of applications, makes us vulnerable to threats, with deliberate attacks on our financial and social structure. This day is a reminder for us to appreciate the magic of Telecommunication in our lives and to have a better security to preserve its integrity for better life. And for that we have to use technology for better self-balancing, self-cleansing and self-knowing rather than for self-absorption, self-loathing, and self-loosing.
Let us hope that as a responsible society we are able to gather wisdom faster than knowledge; that we are able to become masters of gadgets rather than slaves to them. Let us hope that even if we are dependent on them we are not enslaved by them.
