The Unite Nations has marked this day as an International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking to raise awareness of the major threat that illicit drugs pose to the society.
This day is symbolized with launching of various campaigns to like public rallies and mass media exhibits to curb this global problem. According to the statistics, nearly 200 people globally are using illicit drugs such as cocaine, cannabis, hallucinogens, opiates and sedative hypnotics
I would say never do drugs, instead be as intriguing and full of energy as a drug for others; be a company which others can’t do without. Invariably people use drugs for ecstasy, relief of hurt & suffering, curiosity sake and to have a high. But, unfortunately a small dose of the same, after sometime does not have the same effect and you tend to keep increasing the dosages, and before you know you are hooked on it. Those who are hooked on it have either genetic predisposition or are psychologically and emotionally weak. Thus, it stands to reason that we should make our society emotionally strong and resilient, by providing a child with total attention, care, love, respect, right values, a achievable goal, abundance of clarity and high self-esteem.
Emotional deficit leads to indulgence, lack of affection and loneliness. I feel, drug abuse should be handled with empathy and compassion, and surely not with punishment.
On this day let us pray together for all those affected by drugs, their families and dear ones. Let us pray to The Almighty to give them strength to bear the pain, and to find peace in His embrace; to allow them respite from their sufferings and to give them a reason to live and make themselves and others happy. Amen!
