To prevent Stroke, you have to control calorie intake and the diets, which are rich in cholesterol and saturated fats, such as oils, dairy products, egg yolks, meat, fish, coconut, simple sugars, alcohol, salts etc and eating more of wholesome foods, like whole vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, breakfast cereals, lentils, chickpeas, asparagus, spinach and most beans.
Other positive lifestyle changes that would help are – losing weight, exercising regularly, stopping to smoke, relaxing with the techniques of breathing, yoga, meditation, massage and having regular medical check-ups and treatment when necessary.
Strokes are mainly caused due to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high homocysteine levels, smoking, diabetes, increasing age, heart rhythm disturbances, illicit drugs, such as cocaine or amphetamines, ruptured aneurysms, and inherited (genetic) predispositions to blood clotting.
Strokes are ultimately manifested by a blockage in the cerebral artery. The part of the brain that is supplied by the clotted blood vessel is then deprived of blood and oxygen. As a result of the deprived blood and oxygen, the cells of that part of the brain die. Typically, a clot forms in a small blood vessel within the brain that has been previously narrowed due to a variety of risk factors mentioned above.
The stroke may be an embolic type, where a blood clot anywhere in the body, on the inside of the artery breaks free and lodges in the cerebral artery, or of cerebral hemorrhage type where a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and bleeds into the surrounding brain tissue, or a vasculitis type, where either the blood vessels become narrow or inflamed.
Whatever type or whatever reason, prevent strokes at any cost, and in spite of all care you or your dear ones still gets it, ensure immediate and complete treatment.
