And the day arrives again! Friendship Day, celebrated every year on the first Sunday of August. It is the ideal day to stop for a moment and think if we have been taking our friendships for granted in our fast paced lives. It’s a time when we rethink and realign our priorities. It’s a day to spend some time with the most special people in your life.

We always have that one friend, who is closer than anybody else. No amount of friendship bands would ever be able to mark the place a close friend holds for us.

“A true friend scolds like a dad, cares like a mother, teases like a sister, irritates like a brother and finally loves you more than a lover”

Friendship indeed is the symbol of peace and positivism around the globe. The dictionary describes a friend in several ways:

  • A person good enough to be trusted
  • An ally who helps us in struggles or cause
  • A supporter and sympathizer
  • An Acquaintance

However there is a small omission too. The dictionary doesn’t speak about the number of years the friendship has endured, the laughter that fills the air with vibrancy, the times they must have cried for silly things, the understanding, comfort and support a friend gives, the innumerable times you may have fought together and then resolved later.

There is only one message to put across, don’t let your friend feel ignored. Tell them you are there, tell them you care! Let’s not just limit the celebration on a single day to mark the value of your friend. Friendships are the most precious jewels to treasure, treat them as such.

Friendship is a pure magic which helps in the transformation of someone into a special person which endures to become a life-long relationship. It may be anyone, an old friend, someone who you just met, a sibling, a relative or even our parents!

Who are your best friends?
