Sifting through my book-shelf, my eyes caught something intriguing and interesting. A book laid there all silent, waiting for someone to break its long period of exile. Moist and losing its strength over the ages, the cover read aloud “Great Expectations”. No wonder everyone must have either read the book or watched the film based on Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. However, all through the ages the book serves the same message of love, humanity, brotherhood and optimism.

“The books that help you most are those which make you think that most. The hardest way of learning is that of easy reading; but a great book that comes from a great thinker is a ship of thought, deep freighted with truth and beauty.Pablo Neruda

Hello friends! Hope you all are having a day filled with positivity. Waste no time in spreading the happiness in your life with others around you. So, while talking to a friend the other day, I couldn’t help but notice that he had lost a considerable amount of weight in a short period of time. He told me he indeed had lost weight and it was all due to a book he had read and followed its principles sincerely. This made me do my personal research of the book, which was called Eat To Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Joel is a certified family physician that specializes in plant based nutrition-based treatments for obesity and chronic disease.

There are only a handful of people in our lives who manage to influence us in a way which makes us simply marvel at their personality. You end up looking up to these people with mere amazement, wanting to achieve half as much as they have. One of these people who I personally look up to is the music maestro A.R. Rahman, who celebrated his 47th birthday on the 6th of January. A classic example of a person who lets his work speak for himself. You would expect a man with accomplishments that include two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, four National Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards South in addition to numerous other awards and nominations, to exhibit an ‘I know it all’ attitude. This is not the case with musician A.R. Rahman though.

“Let us give publicity to H.I.V./AIDS and not hide it, because the only way to make it appear like a normal illness like TB, like cancer, is always to come out and say somebody has died because of H.I.V./AIDS, and people will stop regarding it as something extraordinary.”

This week has been quite an eventful one for me. Firstly I had the pleasure of meeting Mary Kom, our very own modest boxing champion and secondly, I saw the wonderfully crafted film ‘Life of Pi’ by Ang Lee. While the former incident left me with nothing but respect for a fighter like her, such was the impact of the latter, that it left me in an introspective mode. Listing down one particular thing that I learnt from this marvellous movie will not be fair, as there isn’t one, but many lessons to be learnt from it.
