Personal

Weekends are like mini vacations. You relax, spend quality time with your family, go out to eat, watch a movie, catch-up with friends etc. This weekend, I met a friend after months and we started chatting. During the course of the conversation, he confessed to me about a few weird incidents. He said that he had visions of aliens abducting him and demons sitting on his chest and performing some kind of satanic rituals. He was very disturbed, but calmed down when I told him that there was no need to worry. He was neither being abducted nor a victim of any demon. He was suffering from a normal condition called as sleep paralysis.

“Hitler did very cruel and ugly things. But he was an artist, I love him (for that). He had the power to carry the whole nation, the mob with him. You have to think what magic he had. He was a miracle…. The killing of Jews was wrong. But the good part about Hitler was that he was an artist. He was a daredevil. He had good qualities and bad. I may also have good qualities and bad ones.”

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” -Nelson Mandela

Feedback is vital for growth and improvement, but when it comes to feedback, people stick to the positives and ignore the negatives. Negative feedback is essential for development and if constructed in the right way, it can help a person achieve his ultimate goal. The ideal criticism should work towards perfection. Criticism is an art that has to be mastered and nurtured by every single individual.

Circumstances make us tumble, fumble and crumble in disgust, ailing over the inability to cope with fear. Our life loses its spark and everything around seems dull and lifeless. But we continue to exist in distress hoping for a miracle to happen. And then, with increasing pressure, bursts a voice so full of strength and clarity that it opposes the world and its rigid notions. That moment of resistance towards society and its ideal concepts is courage.

Courage is an attribute that we were born with, but lost it in the midst of our chaotic lives. Only vulnerable situations bring out the best in us and courage is the greatest attribute of them all. It is a word often associated with deeds that portray great vigor and valor. But, saying ‘no’ also needs courage. In truth, we all have become puppets living out the destiny carved for us by our society. We follow dreams seen by others and suppress the thirst for uniqueness fearing failure. Only some showed the courage to resist while others followed the rituals blindly. It requires abundant courage to walk alone but the satisfaction of losing after trying is a remarkable achievement in itself.

You don’t need a magic potion to revive your lost courage. All you need is loads of confidence to suppress the cunning fear and ignore the sarcastic world. Only possessing the driving urge and embracing change can bring back courage from it’s death bed. One shows courage by learning new things, speaking the truth, reacting to unfavorable conditions, supporting someone and traveling alone. You need not turn into a fighter to reveal your courage; a small act of saving a street dog from your insensitive fellow displays the same virtue.

Napolean Bonaparte once said, “Courage isn’t having the strength to go on, it is going on when you don’t have strength.” Overthrow the fear and shout at it saying, “You can’t stop me”. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you tried and didn’t run as a coward. Believe me, even the wildest of your dreams can come true with a little bit of courage.

We are busy, so busy that we don’t even have time for the most important person in our life. Our self! When was the last time you laughed out loud, watched the beautiful sunset or listened to your favourite piece of music? Unfortunately, these things are not that easy to come by. Life is a rat’s race where every waking moment of the day we are running towards an unknown destination. Henry David Thoreau once said

“It is not enough to be busy. So are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about? “

I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence but it comes from within. It is there all the time.”- Anna Freud

With every failure our hopes and dreams get shattered and life becomes an unpleasant journey. The thoughts of quitting pixilates our vision of the future and we struggle to complete the task at hand, then something inspirational and influential strikes our mind. We move on and succeed as a single entity enveloped in confidence.
