Q1] Q: I am diabetic, insulin dependent. What yoga exercises are beneficial to me? - rishi jauhar

A1] Do Mandukasana once daily. Also do Ardhpawanmuktasana, Pawanmuktasana and Ardhhalasana. Breathing: Anuloma-viloma and Kapalbhati(20-25 strokes). OM chanting releases the vibrations around the navel and the crown level. The vibrations released around the navel while chanting OM are beneficial.

 

Q2] I have been living with schizo-affective disorder for the past 10 years and take medication for it. Could you recommend some yoga asanas and pranayamas that are safe for my condition? Should I do trataka as my concentration is not too good? I go for a brisk walk every evening. - XYZ

A2] Doing Shravasana with body and breath awareness for 20 minutes daily will be very helpful. Meditate for 20-25 minutes with proper guidance and more of relaxation. Om chanting 15-20 rounds daily. Breathing: 1]Anuloma-viloma pranayama (alternate nostril breathing), 2]Bhramari pranayama (humming sound during exhalation). For concentration you can do Jyoti(light) Trataka [done with a candle].

 

Q3] I'm very emotional person. I can't see people suffer. I cry all night thinking of them. Please help me. I’m not able to study due to this. My mother suffers from family trouble, so do many friends with different reasons. Help me. - Naren

A3] The world functions on its own with a meaning and a purpose unknown to most of us. We must learn to see everything in larger prospects and every angle. There is always a bigger purpose to be served in nature’s function. Tears of pain and smiles of joy are two extreme polarities. And every ordinary life swings from one to the other. You should not take responsibility for others pain and hurt. Sympathize, empathize, ok. But not to the extent of you feeling the same. It’s a matter of conditioning of self where we accept all circumstances and events as natures being. Trust nature for the same.

 

Q4] I met with an accident in December. Doctor told me that it's worse than a fracture. I got a bad jerk on my vein of ankle bone. Now he's telling me that there's a blood clot. It looks swollen and aches. What do I do? Orthopedic isn't a relief can you suggest something fruitful? - richa bajaj

A4] You need to undergo rigorous physiotherapy at one of the clinics close to you.

 

Q5] I have come to know that in the beginning of Thyroid problems one tends to put on weight. I am putting on weight. Please advise me on the food and how to reduce weight. I am 54yrs.   Geeta

A5] You are suffering with hypothyroidism. Please visit our website: www.mickeymehtahbf.com where you will find diet plans for specific purposes. Follow a diet plan given for thyroid and if possible start with light exercises or involve yourself in some physical activities.

 

Q6] I am easily provoked. What should I do to keep calm under any circumstance? Also I am unsettled when ever I am in public. Too much self-consciousness is killing me. Please help.   kitty

A6] To keep calm under every circumstance one must know that every problem has a solution. And if you have confidence in your own self with faith and trust in lord almighty, it will bring a lot of calm and relaxation. But still in any difficult or a tough situation when you do lose balance take 10 deep breaths and blow out through your mouth one after the other. After doing it for the tenth time you will be relaxed and feel completely calm.

 

Q7] I am 24 years old and married. I weigh 56kgs and height is 5.1". I want to cut down my weight to 50kgs. How do I do that? With the busy schedule at work and home, please suggest me a suitable remedy.   Sweety

A7] You can get into a home workout like push-ups, squats, lunges, crunches, etc. [2 sets x 15-20 repetitions of each exercise].

Q8]I have sleep related problems. I get tired during the day sometimes but do not get sleep in the night. I feel sleepy in the morning and body gets adjusted late. Is there any specific diet or medicine? Thanks for the earlier replies and this one too.   Shyam

A8] There is no medicine or diet of any kind. The best thing for you is meditation. Meditate for 30-45min daily and be aware of your breathing pattern. Do OM chanting or Gayatri mantra or pray to the almighty GOD before your bedtime which will help you relax and sleep well.

Q9] am 53 yrs old (but looking like 48 or so) working lady. I get up at 6 and till evening 10.30 I work without taking rest. But I never feel tired. I think this is because of my positive attitude as I never think negatively. Is it advisable at this age to be restless? I am a bit obese. Otherwise I am leading happy life (domestic front is good) without any problems. Kindly give advice.   vijaya

A9] No, not at all. You should never be restless. And for your age you are leading a perfect lifestyle. Practice some yoga asanas and pranayama with perfect breathing pattern.

Q10] I want to lose weight. I am only 11 but I have a lot of weight and please tell me what kind of healthy food can I eat?   Maria

A10] Maria you need to be physically active to lose weight for your age. Engage yourself in a sport like Tennis or Badminton or Swimming.

Q11] Mine is a love marriage. My husband pursued me for a long time to get a yes. I was reluctant as he was not as educated as my parents were expecting. Finally I agreed as he had a likeable character and my parents reluctantly agreed to our wedding. Within one month of our marriage, I understood he had a very bad temper which he never expressed in the three years I knew him. Small matters used to irritate him. He started physically abusing me. There was also mental torture. I was made to feel as a loser. Three years have passed since our marriage and we have a child. Still he demeans me and hits me. I am not good enough for him. Financially also he has only loans and no savings. He is fishing into my savings also. He threatens to throw me out of the house. What to do? I have nowhere to go with a kid. A11] Are you on your own? Are you working? Then stick to your job. Talk to your parents. They may say a few words to you, but listen to it. You can make a police complaint against the physical abuse. Try to get separate as fast as possible.

Q12] I get tensed with very petty issues pertaining to my work. I am working as DGM in one of the MNCs in Bangalore. I have been away from my family for almost 2 years by now. I keep going to them once in 15 days but still that is not enough. I am now days not at all feeling confidant about my self and my work. A12] Is it not possible to get your family with you? It seems you become home sick, staying alone. Well, yoga will help you a lot. Learn meditation and pranayams like Bhramari. Keep contact with your family every day on phone or chat, for some days. Make good friends at your work place, to share your free time. Try to develop your hobbies. Remember, empty mind is a devil’s place.

 

Q13] I am married for the last 4 yrs and have a 2 years old daughter. Ours was a love marriage. My husband has been keeping very silent these days. What should I do?  Leena Parab

A13] You have to be the best friend of your partner. Talk to your husband, make him feel relax and make him talk and be open to you.

 

Q14] I am very keen to learn Yoga. I feel this is the best way to take control on one's emotions and also for a healthy and positive mind and body. Is it good to go through by a book or do you suggest a trainer? I am asking in case I don’t have a yoga centre close to office or home. Thanks for your answer.   Nandini

A14] Preferably, you should initially learn it from a yoga instructor only, as wrong practice may lead to harm you rather than heal you. Enquire at the counter, for more details.

 

Q15] I have a big problem. My wife tortured me all the time meanly and sayid me to leave her and children. I have two children. What to do?  Shafqat Rasool


A15] you must talk to her and ask for the reason. Talk to her parents also, preferably in her presence. Get the issue solved with discussion.

 

Q16] How can I increase my weight? I’m vegetarian so I don’t eat meat. My hair is also falling because of dandruff. How to cure it?   abhinay

A16] Eat a scoop of a home made butter and a pinch of sugar in morning and before going to bed. Eat seasonal fruits, mangos, sitafals are best. But see that you also exercise regularly. Apply lime juice or the yoghurt to the scalp to get rid of the dandruff problem. Massage the scalp with the warm coconut oil and wash regularly.

A17] Maria you need to be physically active to lose weight for your age. Engage yourself in a sport like Tennis or Badminton or Swimming.

 

Q18] I am 14 years old. My neck has swollen out a little so what should I do to correct it?  sonam

A18] Consult the proper doctor first, to find out the exact reason. Then go for proper exercise or treatment.

 

Q19] I'm 19 pursuing a professional course. But I always feel tired and lazy and don't feel like studying. I’m not able to wake early in spite of sleeping early. I tend to sleep in the afternoons. I don't eat junk, take in lots of veg and fruits. Please help me and my weakness.  Naren

A19] you will have to force yourself for few days till you make it a habit. Exercise regularly in morning. Learn yoga. Exercise like Surya namskar and pranayams will help improve your stamina. Afternoon nap is ok but not more than 20 mins. See that the course you are doing is of your interest or not.

 

Q20] I am 28 years old and I have a girlfriend. She is so gorgeous. Really I love her a lot but I don't know she loves me or not. But our relation is 5 year old. Recently I joined job in Delhi and she is a native of Agra. When I am in Delhi, then I think about her and I feel she loves me but when I go to Agra and talk with her or ask her to meet; she gives me some excuses and always leaves the matter to next time. I asked her for marriage one year ago and she said that if I want to marry her, then I have only one year. After one year she will marry another person of her parents’ choice. I asked her whether she could talk to her parents about me. She said to me never and not at all. Can you give me advice on this problem? Khalid Md. Khalid

A20] Be brave to ask to her parents yourself. First get her consent that if her parents allow she will happily marry you. Then talk to her parents and finish off the matter. Keeping the things hanging worsens them.

 

Q21] I had an arrange marriage two years ago. Recently I checked my wife mobile phone and came to know that before marriage she had an affair (intimate relationship) with a guy. Now after two years of marriage she is still in touch with him through phone, SMS and e-mails. We are living far away from that guy but now my wife was insisting that guy that he should come near to our place and take a job there so that she can meet him and have a relationship like before. I don't know what to do. Please help me.   Raj

A21] First of all, talk to your wife about this. Get it clear, that you know about her relations and weather she had been compelled to marry with you. If that is the case does she really have the interest to stay with you? Then freely discuss the matter, in front of her, with your and her parents. Come to a conclusion as fast as possible. It will be a better, though bitter, decision for both of you.

 

Q22] I am currently working as Marketing assistant for an MNC based in Kuwait for last 5 yrs. I feel I am not being paid well, given responsibilities etc. This has affected my productivity a lot. I ensure that the task given to me is done slowly. I do not follow up on things regularly. I can perform better. But something deep inside me pulls me back. Why should I perform if I am not being recognized and rewarded? Would meditation solve this problem?   sujeet kumar

A22] If your mind has decided that you are not paid as per your abilities, then better try for other job. Till then meditation will surly help. But its better, you keep trying for the other job. But learn to make some adjustments in life. Every job has its plus and minus. You may not get the very best of the life every time.

 

Q23] Dear Mickey, I work in the night shift and quite long hours. Now days I feel quit rest less and very tired. I have been having some stomach upset problems as well. It has now started to hit my concentration and energy level. Can you please help me with balancing my life better? Kind regard   Gaurav

A23] You are having the life style disorder. Working against the nature, upset the biological clock of the body. Yoga will be of great help. Learn Shuddhi kriyas, and pranayam. Learn relaxation techniques, like meditation Shavasan. Be sure you are at least regular in your food timings. Take adequate rest. Head massage before sleep and body massage is helpful.

 

Q24] Sir, I am basically introvert and I want to maintain good and everlasting relationship with everyone around me. But I am not able to do so. How to make my wish turn into reality? Please do reply. Thank you, Sir.   Sathyavijay

A24] Try to be talkative. Find the friends with the same interests as of you. You will be more comfortable then, with them. Take interest in other person’s talk also. Take initiative in making friendship with others.
