Every woman has suffered from some menstrual problem or the other in her lifetime; it is a rare woman who has not! The treatment of these disorders may be augmented by certain lifestyle changes that include regular practice of yoga, exercises and dietary changes. Most of us know that diet and exercise contribute to a healthier life. However, did you know that proper diet and exercise also lead to better menstrual health as well? In fact, exercise for menstrual disorders has proven to be effective and uplifting for many women who were troubled by their symptoms. The good side effect is that you maintain your good shape which does a lot for your self-esteem!

Regular exercise leads to increased blood circulation, a reduction in fat and obesity and a decrease in premenstrual syndrome symptoms. Although 30 to 60 minutes of routine exercise each day is an optimal goal for many individuals, just 20 to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise three times a week is considered an effective amount of activity for reducing menstrual pain. Exercise for menstrual disorders is an effective and healthy way to alleviate symptoms.

Routine workouts, such as brisk walks, jogging, swimming or cycling, calisthenics etcimprove overall health and alleviate negative symptoms. There is a strong balance between physical and psychological health, and most individuals who adopt a lifestyle of exercise appreciate the benefits. They feel better, look better and tend to be happier. Exercise is a great stress reducer.

Yoga, is highly recommended as an effective and healthy exercise regime, especially for menstrual discomfort. The yoga philosophy also works to relieve stress, which is a major contributor to menstrual disorders. Yoga also contributes positive influences for those PMS psychological symptoms, such as irritability, anger and depression. PMS exercise (exercising through the actual symptoms) has also been very beneficial to many individuals who were suffering from headaches, cramps, nausea, bloating and mood swings.

How can Yoga help with Menstrual Disorders?

Yoga treats the root causes of menstrual disorders by helping the condition to be cured in different ways. It is not advisable to do yoga during menstruation. By practicing yoga, it is possible to balance and correct the proper functioning of the endocrine system. Yoga also helps in toning up the nervous system and promotes relaxation and improves vigor and strength of an individual.Yoga combined with Natural Remedies is one of the safest ways of treating menstrual disorders compared to over the counter medication. If you are wondering why I am suggesting yoga, the answer is that the hormonal treatment which is given for such problems goes on for years only makes one pile up more weight and does not always cure the problem completely apart from being very expensive.

Many yoga poses like baddhakonasana, trikonasana, sethubandhasana, matsyasana, dhanurasan, vrikshasan, shavasana, to name a few, ease menstrual cramps, heavy bleeding, pelvic discomfort and the low back pain associated with menses. Apart from this you may also practice breath exercises or ‘Pranayam’.

Before you embark on a ‘Yoga’ treatment for your menstrual problem make sure of a few things:

  • Take a Gynecologists or your doctor’s opinion and diagnosis
  • Learn Yoga from a qualified instructor
  • Let them know your problem and diagnosis

There is a clear link between menstrual complications and diets that are too low in important nutrients. The general guidelines for a healthy diet apply to everyone; they include eating plenty of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and avoiding saturated fats and commercial junk foods.

Limiting salt may help bloating. Reducing caffeine, sugar, and alcohol intake may also be beneficial. Drinking warm water may also help.

Remember, every food that we take, sunshine in daily doses and every breath becomes medicinal and therapeutic and will subsequently help us lead a wholesome and healthy life. Corrections can cure. Let your inner wellbeing get optimized, get Mickeymized!!!
